Jeff - Salt Lake City

Meet Jeff. Jeff was shopping at Smiths at about 2:00 A.M. Saturday Night, or maybe Sunday Morning. I'm not sure which makes more sense. At first, it was his Fedora and Jacket with Buttons that caught my attention. I was particularly impressed with his efficiency at the self check out, which is the only way to pay at 2:00 A.M. Jeff was a real nice guy, and despite being a little bit shy - he was happy to be photographed.

Jane Hamilton - Salt Lake City

I would describe Jane as a person full of passion. Her major passion in life is film. I kid you not, she knows the name of every actor or actress in every movie. Don't ever bet against her in a game of 6 degrees from Kevin Bacon. I've never met anybody who has more similar taste in movies to mine than her. She enjoys nothing more than sitting down to a movie with some good friends and a drink. She is a thinker, a lover of music, and a loyal friend. She currently works as a weight loss counselor for Jenny Craig. This picture was taken during a Bishop Allen concert, I really enjoy the backdrop of band stickers.

Delaney Davidson - Kilby Court

A few weeks back I attended a Holly Golightly & The Brokeoffs concert with my friends at Kilby Court in downtown Salt Lake City. To my surprise Holly Gollightly was upstaged by her opening act, Delaney Davidson. Derek and I briefly chatted with him by the fire before his set; he looked like he had walked out of an old movie with his black boots and leather jacket. He hails from New Zealand, performs in a suit, and has a retro sound that is made somewhat contemporary by his use of a loop pedal. While performing his stripped down acoustic songs he threatened to start a dance party. Following up on this dance threat he looped his guitar and proceeded to dance the waltz with every female in the audience before pairing them up with a dance partner. I’ve never witnessed that kind of stage presence at a Kilby show before.

Sheldon - Salt Lake City

Sheldon is a proud Idaho State Bengal. He lives in Pocatello Idaho, but he took a bus all the way to Salt Lake to hold his sign in a "End the Fed" rally. He is the founder and president of an ISU student organization called "Students for Liberty." He's smart, passionate, and is willing to fight for what he believes in. He's an intuitive man, and I'm positive that if given the opportunity, he could very eloquently answer the question that he wants the world to ask itself: What is money?

Taylor - San Francisco

Taylor Collins is studying graphic design at The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in San Francisco, CA. She has a natural talent for communicating ideas visually. Please note her clever employment of wine bottles while working on a collage for one of her classes. In her spare time she explores the Bay Area with her analogue 35mm camera. And she enjoys the simple pleasures of Andrew Bird albums and oreo cookies with peanut butter, not in any particular order of course.

Justin and Taylor - Salt Lake City

Justin and Taylor were contestants in some sort of a "vintage costume" competition at the Gallivan Center. Justin is the human subject, Taylor would be the canine. I don't know much about the competition, but Justin's combination of headband and sunglasses is AWESOME! Using a dog as an accessory is always a risk in today's world of fashion, but I think Justin pulled it off quite well.

Wen-Kuo Yang - Salt Lake City

Wen-Kuo Yang is from Taiwan, and he's studying Material Sciences at the University of Utah. He likes to read the New York Times, and uses it to learn English. He loves English poetry. He spends almost all of his time on campus, and studies a lot at the Eccles Health Sciences Library, where I work.

Mary - San Francisco

This past October I attended day one of Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in Golden Gate Park. I was hoping to catch a glimpse of Robert Plant and Alison Kraus. While I waited for the show to start my attention was drawn to Mary. She clearly stood out from most of the crowd. She was busy handing out fliers to an upcoming dance music festival. Hardly Strictly Bluegrass indeed.

Paul - Salt Lake City

I met Paul Thursday night at about 11:30 when he came to my door with my friend Charlie. He lives down the street from me, and was walking with his violin in his hand when Charlie and he crossed paths. They came in for a while and we talked about why genetically altered seeds are bad, and what we could do to promote a global effort to return to organic local farming. He's passionate, and seems abnormally honest. He works at One World Cafe, which is definitely one of the coolest place to eat in Salt Lake. I only talked to him for about 15 minutes. It was very refreshing to be able to learn so much from a person in such a short amount of time.

As soon as I can, I'm going to start this project. I intend to meet a stranger every day. I will take their picture, and post it with a few interesting pieces of information about that person. The intention is to show the diversity of people, and to meet new people every day. I hope this helps me and my readers to recognize the intrinsic goodness that human beings possess. I hope it leaves me with an increased desire to meet people, and discover their greatest qualities. I also hope to be able to share photographs that capture the spirit of complete strangers. (while this isn't intended to be focused on fashion, I'm sure that will play a huge role, as outward appearance will be my sole criteria in choosing my subjects.) I'll start as soon as I buy my new camera, which will hopefully be soon.
